Discover the Oka Melon, a true treasure of Quebec's horticultural heritage. Its history dates back to 1893, when four Trappist monks settled in the parish of Oka, Quebec. It was thanks to the patient and passionate work of Trappist Father Athanase, from a cross between the famous Montreal melon (Cucumis melo “Montréal”) and the old American cultivar Banana (Cucumis melo “Banana”), that the Oka Melon was created. Imagine savoring a melon whose origins are rooted in Quebec history!
This early variety, adapted to the Quebec climate, can be grown in most regions of the province. Its thick flesh, of a beautiful bright orange color, offers an exquisite flavor, both sweet and fragrant. The Oka Melon is appreciated for its melting texture and unique aroma. For optimal cultivation, an insect net is recommended in June to counter the striped cucumber beetle. Grow our organic seeds of Oka Melon and perpetuate the tradition by savoring a fruit bursting with sunshine and history.
